question

January 26, 2010 - .

hey i need some new shampoo and bodywash–does anyone have a brand they like which is definitely not tested on animals? a friend recently told me that a lot of companies that say it on the bottles are really just outsourcing their testing and then jacking up the prices anyway!

here is a link that explains whole foods’ standards for the body care products they sell.. http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/products/premium-body-care.php. they’re pretty explicit about what their standards are (“we do not allow any animal testing for any of our personal care products, ever.”)–they even have a video about sourcing–but i guess everything should be subject to further scrutiny. i use 365 brand and i really like that it meets these standards, but doesn’t take advantage of the “natural” label to hike up the price.

I use Dr. Bronner’s for body wash, and it says on the label that it is 1) 100% vegan, and 2) not tested on animals, with that bunny logo. If the Peppermint is too extreme, I use the Almond; it is nice. I am about to run out of my cheap shampoo and do some research into a good brand for that; I’ll let you know what I find.
